The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has revealed the 12 winners of its 2017 awards representing the very best of current Scottish architecture. All winning projects will now be shortlisted for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award, to be presented in November.
Stewart Henderson, president of the RIAS, said: “The quality of contemporary Scottish architecture is well worthy of celebration. These awards demonstrate that buildings of all scales and throughout the country are exemplary in their design, execution and in what they deliver for their clients, users and communities.”
Riddell PM are very proud that we were involved in the successful delivery of the Alumno Developments £10.5m Powis Place project in Aberdeen which was one of the 12 winners. Working on behalf of the Main Contractor, Kier Construction, our team of Technical Authors undertook the production of the Building Fabric Manual (incorporating Health & Safety File Information) and production of a BREEAM Building User Guide.
The architectural firm Carson & Partners designed the new-build six-storey building with rooms for 196 students. The building consists of a series of two- to nine-bedroom cluster flats, along with studios; onsite management facilities and modern amenities, as well as secure cycle spaces.
The prestigious Aberdeen project however is not the only Alumno Developments project we have worked on, as we were also appointed by Kier Construction to provide our Technical Authoring Services on the £7.5m Student Accommodation building at Dumbarton Road in Glasgow. On this occasion we produced the Building Fabric Manual, the BREEAM Building User Guide and also a Health & Safety File.
In 2015, when Alumno Developments constructed a new-build £8m student accommodation in St. Andrews, the home of golf, they awarded the Principal Contractor role to Interserve Construction who subsequently appointed Riddell PM to produce the Building Fabric Manual and the BREEAM Building User Guide.
We wish Carson & Partners the best of luck with the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award.
